Local governments are experiencing more incivility, divisiveness, misconduct, and bad behavior in public meetings. Research indicates it is not enough to focus only on interventions that reduce the emotions of polarization at the individual level. Interventions should consider the interplay between polarization and political structures, incentives, and strategies.
This special YED summit on NOvember 29, 2023 responded to these escalating situations by offering elected officials and key agency staff a hands-on interactive workshop to learn and practice effective strategies with subject matter experts from the Institute for Local Government (ILG).
